Looking for a Vizsla?

You have come to the right place. Rescue is a wonderful option when looking to add a dog to your family. Please take some time to read about our ‘Rescue Program’ below to understand how our program works.

The Central Wisconsin Vizsla Club (CWVC) voted to become involved in breed rescue in 1993, in conjunction with the Vizsla Club of America. The CWVC Rescue is powered by volunteers. Our Rescue Coordinator will review submitted adoption applications, adding applicants' information to our database. If a dog within our program might be a good fit for you, we will reach out to you and your family.

We are a breed-specific rescue. Due to limited funds and resources, we can only accept purebred Vizslas into our program.

About Adopting a Vizsla:

  • Prospective owners are asked to complete an adoption application to help match the best dog for you/your family.
  • A home visit of the prospective owner will be completed prior to meeting the dog.
  • A meet and greet meeting will take place between the dog, prospective owner, and other pets (as appropriate).
  • The adopter signs a contract to ensure the care and wellbeing of the dog.
  • Adoption fees vary per dog and depending on the dog’s needs. Please expect to pay a reasonable adoption fee to cover inoculations, spay or neuter fees, health exam by a licensed veterinarian and/or microchips.

About Surrendering a Vizsla:

  • Prior to completing the surrender form, please make every effort to contact your breeder. A responsible and reputable breeder will help find a home, provide coaching for behavioral issues, or take the dog back.
  • Complete the surrender form and provide as much detail as you can about the dog. Our Rescue Coordinator will contact you regarding your Vizsla.
  • We will request all registration papers, health records, and any other paperwork related to the dog be provided to the rescue volunteer at the time of transfer.
  • We also request that all dogs coming into our program be neutered or spayed and be current on all shots, whenever possible.
